Bypass MLB.TV blackouts to stream all baseball games

While MLB.TV is great, you still have to worry about blackouts. That’s because regional markets have sole broadcasting rights, so some games may not be available online in your area until 48 hours after a game is televised.

The secret to avoiding MLB blackouts? Connect to a VPN server location where games are not being aired. If you’re in Boston, for example, and Red Sox games are being broadcast on TV, they might not be available for live streaming. Connect to a VPN server location in another city or country.

MLB awards races

AL MVP – Mike Trout, CF, Los Angeles Angels

This award is always Trout’s to lose until someone else can prove they’re having a truly outstanding season. J.D. Martinez and Byron Buxton have been the most dangerous hitters in the American League so far, but Trout isn’t far behind. He also offers a great deal on the bases and plays a premium position well. Not only that, but the Angels look poised to have some rare team success that could bolster their superstar’s case.

(Preseason Prediction: Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels)

NL MVP – Ronald Acuna Jr., CF, Atlanta Braves

No player has looked more dynamic than Acuna Jr. in the early going, thanks to his combination of power, speed, and defensive ability. Not only is he producing raw numbers, he’s also creating eye-popping highlights — like when he beat out a routine ground ball against the Philadelphia Phillies that wouldn’t have been a single for anyone else. His abdominal strain is just a day-to-day issue and he should be terrorizing the entire National League again in no time.

(Preseason Prediction: Ronald Acuna Jr., Atlanta Braves)

AL Cy Young – Gerrit Cole, SP, New York Yankees

The Yankees have had a number of issues in the early going, but Cole’s performance isn’t one of them. The intimidating ace is consistently blowing opposing hitters away, pitching deep into games, and keeping the ball in the park. There’s not a lot Cole doesn’t do well, and it’s not a surprise to see him thriving in his second year in the Bronx.

(Preseason Prediction: Shane Bieber, Cleveland Indians)

NL Cy Young – Jacob deGrom, SP, New York Mets

Although Joe Musgrove deserves mention for throwing the first no-hitter in Padres’ history, he’s unlikely to be an ace worthy of this award. Not only has deGrom excelled out of the gate, he was the odds-on favorite to win his third Cy Young in four years entering the season. Well into his thirties, deGrom keeps gaining velocity on his feared heater. His fiercest challenger in the early going has to be Milwaukee Brewers stud Corbin Burnes, but deGrom’s track record makes him a safer bet.

(Preseason Prediction: Yu Darvish, San Diego Padres)

AL Rookie of the Year – Yermin Mercedes, C/DH, Chicago White Sox

Going 5-for-5 on Opening Day was a pretty good indication that Mercedes had arrived, and he’s been raking for the White Sox out of the DH spot. Although he hasn’t offered any defensive value, his bat has been downright special. He’s already locked down the number five spot in an excellent lineup and looks like he has a path to this award similar to Yordan Álvarez’s win in 2019.

(Preseason Prediction: Luis Patiño, SP, Tampa Bay Rays)

NL Rookie of the Year – Jazz Chisholm, 2B/SS, Miami Marlins

Rarely does a rookie come into the majors with Chisholm’s combination of speed, athleticism, power, and plate discipline. The 23-year-old has some strikeout issues that could haunt him as pitchers adjust to his approach, but he’s off to a good start and is working from an extremely compelling collection of tools.

(Preseason Prediction: Sixto Sánchez, SP, Miami Marlins)

AL Manager of the Year – Mike Matheny, Kansas City Royals

While Matheny left the St. Louis Cardinals with a dubious reputation, it’s hard to fault the job he’s doing in Kansas City right now. The Royals were expected to take the leap to respectability this season after a few rough years, but they’ve done far better than that thus far. They may not keep this up, but for now Matheny deserves some credit to guiding a young group to some surprising success.

(Preseason Prediction: Joe Maddon, Los Angeles Angels)

NL Manager of the Year – Craig Counsell, Milwaukee Brewers

The NL Central looks like it’s going to be a dogfight all year, and whoever comes out on top should get plenty of shine. Counsell also has the benefit of entering the season as a highly-respected skipper who’s finished in the top-seven of Manager of the Year voting in four straight seasons, including second-place finishes in 2018 and 2019.

(Preseason Prediction: Craig Counsell, Milwaukee Brewers)

Who’s going to win the World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers were the best team in baseball for years before finally breaking through in the postseason in 2020. While they’re an excellent bet to repeat. They’ll have a tough road because of the threat posed by the San Diego Padres thanks to the additions of Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, and Joe Musgrove at the top of their rotation.

Both New York teams should be World Series contenders this season, and a ‘subway series’ like we had in 2000 isn’t out of the question. The Yankees retain their terrifying lineup, as well as a rotation headed by Gerrit Cole and filled out by interesting bounce-back candidates like Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon. Despite a rough start, they still look like an American League powerhouse. The Mets, meanwhile, made a huge splash in the offseason by trading for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco and signing the rotation duo of Marcus Stroman and Taijuan Walker.

Outside of the heavyweights, some interesting up-and-coming teams include the Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays. Each of these clubs has its own blemishes, but they are all packed with young talent capable of overperforming projections.

Here are the top 10 contenders according to FanGraphs’ championship probability:

Team Championship Probability
Los Angeles Dodgers 21.6%
New York Mets 14.7%
New York Yankees 13.0%
San Diego Padres 10.2%
Chicago White Sox 6.7%
Houston Astros 6.4%
Boston Red Sox 3.9%
Los Angeles Angels 3.7%
Milwaukee Brewers 3.1%
Toronto Blue Jays 3.1%

  1. Express VPN isn’t working for the mlb.tv package like this article states. It did work last year. Have you got this fixed yet? The only reason I have express vpn is for baseball and now it’s not working.

  2. Trying to watch MLB.TV on laptop with Express VPN turned on. When I attempt to stream a live game, I get an error. MLB.TV’s website says you may experience streaming issues while connected to a VPN.

    Any thoughts?

  3. I’m using express VPN on Android and my first two games worked, but today’s game is getting blocked. Same team and same city. Any tips?

    1. Hi Richard,

Please try the connecting to the closest server location you previously connected to. Also, please decline sharing your location with the app if possible.

  6. I have the ExpressVPN service. Can I use ExpressVPN to sign into MLB.TV to stream blackout games and then cast to a chromecast, or will it note that my Chromecast is on a router located in a blackout area?

  7. tried to stream Baltimore Orioles games on IPVANISH vpn using amazon firetv. miserable failure. why would YOUR vpn be better ? and i’ve heard VPN’s have some sort of trouble with Amazon fire products (by FAR the best and most commonly used streaming devices. Obviously your vpn is not helpful to us if it doesnt work with FireTv/stick products ) what’s a roku/ an australian animal ?) thanx

      1. Hello. Can I get around the mlb blackouts with your service. I have a mlbtv subscription and a roku with my Samsung smart tv

  8. I am having the same issue with my appletv too (4th gen) i have my router (netscape) with expressvpn on it. MLB is still blackout through both systems.
I got this specifically for watching baseball.

      1. I am going through all your youtube videos, and redoing everything step by step hopefully this will work.

        1. This didn’t help. I’ve tried attaching mediastreamer, but everything else is set up through router. I don’t know how to attach this through expressvpnrouter. Any suggestions?

      2. I got it up and working now. I had to add Media streamer to my expressvpn router. Thankyou for all the youtube videos that walked me through this.

  9. I have my AppleTV set up with Mediastreamer and MLB does not work. I then changed my router’s L2PT settings to be out of the blackout zones, and now every game is blacked out. I’ll be honest, this was one of the big reasons for me to subscribe in the first place.

  10. Just got signed up today and used the step by step guide for setting up with a 4th gen Apple TV by first creating a ddns account, then doing the Dynamic DNS Registration, then manually
configuring the DNS server IP on the Apple TV’s settings. After restarting via settings (per instructions) I still get blacked out of local games. Any suggestions?

    1. Hi Michael,

A VPN secures your connection and let’s you enjoy baseball streams no matter where you are. Just fire up ExpressVPN, connect to a location near the tournament locale, and you’ll be all set.

If you run into any issues, be sure to get help from Support: https://www.expressvpn.com/support/

  11. MLB at bat is not working for me. I tried a GPS location spoofer in conjunction with VPNexpress and it still doesnt work. I am using device gps only, not advanced tracking.

    1. Hi Vic,

Try not to use a GPS location spoofer with ExpressVPN. With a VPN, your IP address is already hidden and replaced by the server address you connect to. If you have further problems, please contact the Support team at https://www.expressvpn.com/support/ for further assistance.

    1. Hi Bill,

ExpressVPN does not interfere with any streamimg service you choose to use. In fact, it helps you access your favorite sport streams no matter where you are.

If you have problems using ExpressVPN to watch NESN, please contact the Support team at https://www.expressvpn.com/support/ 🙂

  12. It’s not working for the World Baseball Classic on mlb.tv only watchable in the US. I need help or a refund on my money.

  13. I think MLB has gotten wise to the VPN trick. I’m trying to stream the World Baseball Classic in the UK (where it’s blacklisted). Have used Express VPN to both DC and NY and MLB TV says,

“We’re sorry. We have determined that you are blacked out of watching the game you selected, due to television broadcaster restrictions. An archive copy of the game will be available 90 minutes after the game ends.”

Is there a solution to this, or are we stuck?

    🙁

    1. Hi Christian,

A VPN can help you stream sports no matter where you are. Simply pick a broadcaster that is showing the South African cricket tour, connect to a VPN server in that location, then you’ll be able to watch the games in New Zealand or anywhere else!

  14. Is there any chance that I can get VPN Express to use in Spain and UK while I am away in Europe this month. We are huge baseball fans and don’t want to miss a minute. If it’s possible, can I use wifi to connect in our hotel room? Thanks for your help.
